Support Service participation — Forum : Agressions sexuelles — Violences conjugales (May 9, 2024) — Trois-Rivières, QC
Every year, the CIUSSS MCQ and members of the Intersectoral Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Committee for the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec Region hosted the forum Agressions sexuelles—Violence conjugale (Sexual Assault—Domestic Violence). This was a key event for various stakeholders in the region affected by matters related to its topic.
During this forum, several caseworkers, researchers, professionals, and administrators in the field came together to discuss about best practices. This edition featured a variety of talks that focussed on secondary victimization, improving practices within different organizations involved in the judicial process, and on the best approaches concerning perpetrators of domestic violence.
This year, the Support Service had the opportunity to present a workshop on ways of lowering the risks of retraumatizing victims of sexual assault during medico-social interventions in a designated centre. It demystified medico-social interventions in designated centres for victims of sexual assault and gave an overview of the challenges involved in such interventions.
Potentially retraumatizing factors in medico-social interventions were examined, and the application of a trauma-informed approach was proposed in answer to the question of how to reduce the risks of retraumatization.
A kiosk was also set up to raise awareness on the services offered by designated centres as well as by the Support Service in its role as an entity specializing in support and best practices for medico-social interventions.
